Hunt Country for Sale!

This is a critical piece of our Quail Roost Hunt Country that is now for Sale. We hope a fellow foxhunter will buy the property.

Tuckaway is a secluded 136 plus-acre equine paradise located in the northern part of Durham county, just minutes from Duke University, Raleigh and Chapel Hill North Carolina. Strategically placed in Rougemont behind Quail Roost Farms, home of the Red Mountain Hounds Fox Hunting Club, Tuckaway offers lots of riding trails and is paneled  for fox hunting.

This beautiful estate has much to offer beginning with a simple but carefully designed “Southern Living” home. It is a blend of casual comfort and detail for everyday living.

The stucco exterior, tasteful wood trim and shake roof perfectly suits Tuckaway’s country setting.

Enter Tuckaway through a covered porch entrance. In the foyer, beautiful oak hardwoods lead to the heart of the home — the gourmet kitchen. Cherry cabinetry, solid surface counters, back splash and hardwoods perfectly blend beauty and functionality. A center island with Jen-Air cook top, a built-in oven and lots of counter space make cooking and entertaining a dream. The large breakfast area with built-in entertainment center has a wall window allowing views of the terrace and pool. There’s a butler’s pantry with wet sink and corner storage pantry between the kitchen and dining room.

The dining room has oak flooring, wainscoting and French doors leading to private porch on front of the home. Rocking chair seats and spectacular sunsets can be enjoyed from this vantage point.

The main living area pairs luxurious plush carpeting with a soaring two-story ceiling. Natural lighting from the tall windows makes this a tranquil space. The field stone fireplace has a cherry mantel and is flanked by a balanced window and door on each side.

A small vestibule separates the owner’s suite from the activity areas of the home. The owner’s suite includes raised ceiling, large tiled sky-lit bath, walk-in closet and French doors leading to a slate terrace. From the terrace, step down to the heated pool, which is surrounded by professional landscaping, a scalloped privacy fence and a pool house. The art studio and kitchen also have access to the terrace and pool.

In the double-parlor tradition of older homes, pocket-doors open off the living area to a library. A second pair of pocket-doors enables this room to function as a private sitting room for the owner’s suite. Enjoy intimate evenings or quite reading on a screened porch shared by the library and main living area. The screened porch faces a natural area and a forest of large mature oaks that bring cool shade to this side of the home.

Tuckaway’s second level has three bedrooms with a shared bath and easy-access storage.

A magnificent space for the serious artist was created just off the kitchen. Walls of light-filled windows with transoms and high ceiling blend together for an open studio.

View the pasture and barn from the half round deck on one side of the studio or enjoy the pool and terrace from the other. A wall of cabinets offers plenty of storage.

Rose lovers will have ready-made winners in the professionally maintained rose gardens. Carefully placed around the home, the forty-plus bushes bring an array of color from June through October.
