Summer Horse show dates:

TBD

During the “off” season (April-September) Red Mountain Hounds sometimes hosts a horse show designed to promote the field hunter.  Typically taking place outside of the traditional riding arena, these shows are open to all breeds of horses and focus on attributes desired in a foxhunter: good manners, pace, and suitability to the rider.

RMH FOXHUNTER DERBY

The Foxhunter Derby is based off of the concept of an eventing Derby Cross, but with a field hunter twist.  Think “show hunter meets cross country”.  Ridden at a hunting pace, riders jump a mix of hunter jumps and natural fences (can include coops, brush boxes, hay bales, barrels, etc).  Courses are scored on both style and faults.

FIELD HUNTER TRIALS

Occasionally RMH will host field hunter trials.  These are open to horses and ponies whose primary use is that of a field hunter and have hunted regularly during the current season with RMH or another recognized hunt. Comprised of flat and over fences classes outside of the arena.  Obstacles include those typically seen out hunting (logs, coops, brush, bridges, ditches, etc).  Horses and ponies are judged on performance, manners, pace, and way of going.
